ATC Therapy Clinic provides autism-specific outpatient therapy for children and adults in North Texas. Our expertise will ensure a warm and accepting therapeutic environment which will lead toward effective language, communication, social skills and sensory integration. The Clinic is Medicaid/Medicare certified and accepts private insurance.
Our mission is to promote the development of functional communication and social skills for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Regardless of the developmental level of the person with autism, research now shows intervention is never too late. ATC and its staff believe in exercising best practices and offers individualized research-based treatment and therapy to each patient. All services are designed and implemented by licensed specialists who have experience and training working with individuals with autism and related disorders. Treatment sessions range between 30 minutes to 1 hour and patients can be seen 2-5 times per week. Based on availability, sessions can be scheduled with the specific needs of each patient and family in mind.
Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy
Occupational and Physical therapy at ATC Therapy Clinic is a treatment program for learning the necessary skills for purposeful and meaningful daily movements and activities, and learning to understand the world around them.
Treatment is established for the features common in autism, including abnormal relationships to objects and events; abnormal responses to sensations in the environment; challenging behavior; impairments in socialization, imagination, and communication. Therapists also address deficits in self care, coordination, clumsiness, poor balance and delays in motor skills.
In a gym equipped with sensorimotor equipment, movement and play become a teaching avenue to motivate, engage emotions, involve and to excite; thereby, engaging the brain through motor movements and sensory experiences. Motor activities also enhance descriptive and comparative vocabulary.
The treatment team members review each patient’s program and progress, and continually collaborate in an effort to design a treatment approach that is best for each child.
Speech therapy, conducted by certified speech language pathologists, consists of diagnosing and treating all aspects of communication.
Strengths and needs in the following areas are identified in order to develop individualized programs:
Speech – the production of sounds in words
Expressive and Receptive Language – the ability to understand and use language
Pragmatics – the ability to use socially appropriate language
Oral Motor – the ability to use voluntary motor movements to produce speech
Early identification and intervention combined with individualized plans are the key elements for effective treatment. Sign language, picture symbols, and/or augmentative communication devices are used when needed to facilitate speech and language development.
Speech sessions are 30-60 minutes depending on the individual’s age, strengths, and needs. Following a comprehensive assessment, either one-on-one session or co-treatment with an Occupational Therapist and/or Physical Therapist is offered to ensure the most effective therapy.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy
The Autism Treatment Center Therapy Clinic uses the principles of ABA to (1) identify children struggling with functional communication, social and academic skills; (2) document each child’s performance; and (3) determine the adequacy of each child’s response to instruction in order to determine an appropriate level of instructional intensity and any other changes, as needed.
Each child in the program receives an initial evaluation upon admission to the ABA program. This consists of a functional behavior assessment, use of the Behavior Language Assessment Form (a brief assessment that contains areas found in the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills – Revised, ABLLS-R), and portions of the Verbal Behavior Milestones and Placement Program, VB-MAPP. The initial assessment provides a baseline level of the child’s performance, while at the same time providing evidence for the development of specific, measurable educational and behavioral objectives. A complete VB-MAPP Milestones Assessment, Barriers Assessment, and/or ABLLS-R assessment are completed after the individual has received ABA services (numerous sessions) to build rapport, determine appropriate instruction, presentation, and reinforcement procedures in order to obtain an accurate score.
ATC Therapy Clinic emphasizes the use of positive behavior support. Positive Behavior support is an approach to intervention that integrates technical features of ABA with person-centered values. Positive behavior support is a process for designing individualized behavioral intervention plans based on understanding relationships between a student’s behavior and aspects of his or her environment. Plans include: modification to the environment, teaching skills to replace problem behaviors, effective management of consequences, and promotion of positive life style changes.
Direct delivery staff (licensed therapists) are supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
